Java Software Engineer

Currently we are looking for a Java Software Engineer for our Prague office to make the team even stronger.


Our client is an investment bank which provides large corporate, government and institutional clients with a full spectrum of solutions to their strategic advisory, financing and risk management needs. The Risk, Finance and Treasury Technology team comprises c.3500 colleagues situated in the major hubs of the United Kingdom, the United States, Czech Republic, etc.

As a Java Developer, the prospective candidate will get exposure to many business deliverable projects in the Risk visualization pipelines, focus on build out of a new strategic front office trading tools and migration of risk systems and regulatory deliverables.


  • Be responsible for the build out of front office risk analytic and trading tools;
  • Design/develop important service orchestration layer to integrate state-of-the-art caching technologies and Hadoop eco-systems;
  • Deliver strategic risk management system to meet various commitments;
  • Work with trading desk, finance and operations to build high perform business critical risk analytic and trading tool;
  • Perform technical design and data modeling base on functional requirements;
  • Build/test the approved design and creation of release notes for implementation into production in accordance with the Agile best practices;
  • Perform development of Java server-side technologies including web technologies on Linux/Unix environments (JBoss or Weblogic, etc.).


  • Be proficient in Java with at least 3 years of experience (Class vs. Object, Wrapper classes, strings, serialization, generics, exceptions, concurrency, JDBC, JMS, JMX, class loading, garbage collection);
  • Be proficient in software development best practices with at least 2 years’ experience (CI/CD/release management, coding style/static code analysis, build tools (e.g. Maven, MS build), Code reviews, documentation);
  • Be technically proficient - knowledge of the following is required:
    • SOLID principles;
    • OOP design pattern;
    • Enterprise integration patterns;
    • Complexity theory;
    • Data structures;
    • Algorithms;
    • General problem-solving;
    • In depth knowledge of multi-threaded, high throughput, low-latency design of Java service components.
  • Be comfortable working with other IT teams as a client or providing support;
  • Be proficient in the following frameworks: Spring Core, ORM (Hibernate or other);
  • Experience with PL/SQL or Oracle or other commercial database;
  • Be comfortable working within an Agile team and working on tasks outside of core proficiencies;
  • Bachelor‘s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.

Nice to have

  • Experience working with big data technologies (Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Spark);
  • Experience with Git/Stash/Jira/Nexus for source and version control, Autosys for batch control;
  • Financial industry experience, knowledge of derivatives products.
